Safety inspections on machines & plants – compliant & audit-ready
Initial and periodic safety inspections in line with ISO/IEC machinery standards and local legal frameworks. Documented functional tests and measurements, label, and report (EN/DE) – ready for customer and authority audits.
What I inspect (machine groups)
I carry out documented, legally robust safety inspections on the following machine groups (initial and periodic – report & label included):
- Hydraulic presses, spotting presses
- Press brakes
- Eccentric/mechanical presses
- Pneumatic presses
- Guillotine shears
- Swing benders
- Long folding machines
- Robot cells
- Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV/FTS)
Where relevant: stop-time/stop-distance measurement and EN ISO 13855 safety distance calculation, plus functional tests of safeguard devices.
What is tested (from practice)
Hydraulics/pneumatics (e.g., presses): oil level/condition, leakage, hose/pipe condition & fittings, mounting of valves, pressure-limiting functions present and effective.
Electrical equipment (IEC 60204-1): cabinet condition and IP rating, component/lead integrity, lockable main isolator, markings.
Guarding (fixed/movable):
- Fixed guards/fencing: no reach-over/under/through, anti-bypass design, visibility, reset only from outside danger zones.
- Interlocked movable guards/doors: anti-tamper, stop on opening, no unexpected restart, hold-to-run or power interlocking where required; emergency/escape release where applicable.
BWS/AOPD (light curtains/multi-beam): secure mounting (anti-shift), documented distances, rear/under-reach protection, indicator/reset outside hazard zone, stop on test rod, OSSD monitoring; muting/timed modes only per standard (resolution/logic/time).
Two-hand & foot controls: simultaneity, anti-tie-down, clear view to hazard zone; foot controls guarded against accidental actuation and self-returning.
Stop-time & safety distances: measurement series (as needed), resulting EN ISO 13855 distances calculated and compared with installed positions; values documented in the report.
Control & monitoring functions: no unexpected restart (mode change, guard open/close, power loss/pressure drop, etc.); Emergency stop category and priority; mode selection lockable with only one mode active.
Other typical checks: press frame condition, linkages/cams/limit switches secured, ram/cylinder/slide fixings, fixed access systems (ladders/steps/handrails, gratings) in line with good practice.
Initial inspection (after modification, installation or relocation)
Goal: Prove the effectiveness of protective measures before production starts.
You receive
- Inspection report (EN/DE) with measured values/tests and a prioritised action list (deadlines/owners)
- Label/sticker with date and next interval
- Short briefing for operators/maintenance
Typical flow: document review → on-site inspection → measurements & functional tests → report & label.
Periodic inspection
Goal: Ensure ongoing effectiveness of protective measures in operation.
You receive
- Updated report, label, action list (with deadlines)
- On request: a site-wide inspection register and reminder cadence
Scope (typical): plausibility of stop-time/distances (spot checks/measurement as needed), functional checks of AOPD/doors/interlocks/releases, E-stop chain, labelling/marking, changes since last inspection. Intervals per legal framework and OEM guidance.
Standards & markets we work to (UAE/GCC-ready)
We inspect to international ISO/IEC machinery safety standards and prepare audit-ready evidence for clients and authorities in the Middle East.
- Functional safety: ISO 13849-1 and IEC 62061 (PL/SIL) – safety control systems, diagnostics, validation.
- Electrical equipment of machines: IEC 60204-1.
- Safeguards & distances: IEC 61496 (AOPD/light curtains), ISO 13855/13857 (safety/reach distances).
- Robots & AGV: ISO 10218 / ISO/TS 15066 (collab), ISO 3691-4 (AGV/FTS).
- Presses: ISO 16092 series (mechanical/hydraulic); press brakes aligned with EN 12622 (mapped to ISO/IEC).
UAE compliance routes: We can align documentation with MoIAT conformity schemes (e.g., ECAS/EQM) where applicable and advise on Gulf (GSO) requirements for regulated product families. On request, reports can reference local OSH frameworks (e.g., Abu Dhabi OSHAD) to ease acceptance.
Deliverables (always included)
- Inspection report (EN/DE) with documented measurements and functional tests
- Label (date & next interval)
- Prioritised action plan (what/why/by when)
- Optional: templates (checklists, inspection register) and short training for operators/maintenance
Next steps
- Send reference material (photos: control cabinet interior, operator panel, safeguards; make/model/year; any existing documents as PDF/scan).
- 15-minute discovery call to clarify scope, timeline and access.
- Fixed price after review; execution with minimal impact on production.
