Guard door with safety interlock in Dubai/UAE—anti-tamper design and restart prevention

Safeguarding inspections – compliant & audit-ready

Initial and periodic safeguarding inspections for presses and automated cells. We verify AOPD/light curtains, following systems, guard doors/interlocks, perform safety-distance evidence and deliver audit-ready reports (EN/DE).

What I inspect (machine groups)

Documented, legally robust inspections (initial & periodic) for:

  • Hydraulic presses, spotting presses
  • Press brakes (with following systems or light curtains)
  • Eccentric/mechanical presses
  • Pneumatic presses
  • Guillotine shears
  • Swing benders
  • Long folding machines
  • Robot cells
  • Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV/FTS)

Robot/AGV cell safeguarding in Dubai/UAE—IEC 61496 and ISO 3691-4 zones
BWS inspections for robot/AGV cells—IEC 61496 light curtains, ISO 3691-4 zones; audit-ready reporting.

What is tested (from practice)

AOPD / light curtains / multi-beam (IEC 61496): secure mounting (anti-shift), correct positioning, rear/under-reach protection, indicators/resets outside hazard zones, OSSD monitoring, stop on test rod; muting/timed modes only if compliant (resolution/logic/timing).

Following systems on press brakes (e.g., PSENvip/AKAS): tool/sheet detection, safe speeds/zones, defined change-over points; release logic documented and validated against press-brake safety requirements.

Guard doors & interlocks (ISO 14119 principles): anti-tamper design, hold/escape where required, restart prevention, documented release logic; clear sightlines.

Two-hand & enable devices: simultaneity and anti-tie-down behaviour, clear view to hazard zone, proper integration in the safety control system.

Safety distances (ISO 13855/13857): stop-time/stop-distance measurements where relevant; calculated distances are documented and compared with installed positions.

Integration in the safety control system (ISO 13849-1 / IEC 62061): PL/SIL allocation, diagnostics, mode selection (only one active), coherent releases; no unexpected restart.

Initial inspection (after modification, installation or relocation)

Goal: Prove the effectiveness of safeguarding before production starts.

You receive

  • Inspection report (EN/DE) with measured values/tests and a prioritised action list (deadlines/owners)
  • Label with date and next interval
  • Short operator/maintenance briefing

Flow: document review → on-site inspection → measurements & functional tests → report & label.

Periodic inspection

Goal: Ensure ongoing effectiveness of safeguarding in operation.

You receive

  • Updated report, label, action list (with deadlines)
  • Optional: site-wide inspection register and reminder cadence

Scope (typical): plausibility of stop-time/distances (spot checks/measurement as needed), functional checks of AOPD/doors/interlocks/releases, E-stop chain, labelling/marking, changes since last inspection. Intervals per local legal framework and OEM guidance.

Standards & markets we work to (UAE/GCC-ready)

Inspections are delivered to international ISO/IEC machinery safety standards with audit-ready evidence for the Middle East.

  • Safeguards/AOPD: IEC 61496; safety/reach distances ISO 13855/13857
  • Functional safety: ISO 13849-1, IEC 62061 (PL/SIL)
  • Electrical equipment of machines: IEC 60204-1
  • Robots & AGV: ISO 10218 / ISO/TS 15066 (collab), ISO 3691-4 (AGV/FTS)
  • Presses: ISO 16092 series (mechanical/hydraulic); press brakes aligned to EN 12622 and evidenced with ISO/IEC wording

UAE compliance alignment: On request we reference OSHAD (Abu Dhabi) machine-guarding expectations in our reports. For product matters we can advise on MoIAT schemes (e.g., ECAS/EQM) and GSO/G-Mark applicability; on-site safeguarding inspections themselves are delivered to ISO/IEC.

Deliverables (always included)

  • Inspection report (EN/DE) with documented measurements and functional tests
  • Label (date & next interval)
  • Prioritised action plan (what/why/by when)
  • Optional: templates (checklists, inspection register) and a short training for operators/maintenance

Next steps

  1. Send reference material (photos: AOPD/following system mounting and field of view, guard doors/interlocks, operator panel, control cabinet; plus make/model/year and any existing docs as PDF/scan).
  2. 15-minute discovery call to clarify scope, access and timeline.
  3. Fixed price after review; execution with minimal impact on production.
